Abstract Spiders have been used to evaluate changes in systems by anthropization effect, some species showing sensitivity to gradual and drastic changes such as urbanization, and other species have been documented as tolerant to this effect. The goal of this work was to describe the change in the spider community in relation to the age of buildings. at the west of Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. Three categories of construction time and the neighboring vegetation as the pre-urbanization environment were used for comparison. Using direct capture, pit-fall traps and beating nets, 3,619 spiders were collected, and 3,219 (315 ♂♂, 630 ♀♀ and 2,274 immatures) were used for the analysis after removal juveniles that was not possible to identify. A total of 28 families, 93 genera, 47 species and 55 morphospecies were identified. This represents the greatest richness and abundance recorded in urban environments for the country. It describes changes in alpha diversity from colonization in recent constructions to those built 11 years ago. It was observed that abundance, richness, and diversity decrease with the age of a building, but with high equitability in every age of construction. The age of a building is an important factor for the process of succession in urban environments.

RESUMO: A sorção de pesticidas no solo é o principal fator responsável por regular o destino de pesticidas no ambiente, afetando a degradação microbiológica e química, volatilização e lixiviação. O principal objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o efeito da fase orgânica de solos vulcânicos sobre a sorção de pesticidas agrícolas. A sorção e dessorção de oito solos vulcânicos cujos constituintes flúvico e húmico de sua matéria orgânica eram variáveis. Os resultados mostraram que, para todos os pesticidas, a sorção foi bem descrita por uma isoterma de Freundlich, e os valores 1/nads indicam que o mecanismo de sorção poderia ser explicado principalmente por reações físicas em todos os solos. Carbaryl e flumioxazin foram mais adsorvidos, com Kf média de 7,78 e 7,16 mL g-1, enquanto hexazinone e metsulfuron-methyl foram os pesticidas mais lábeis, com Kf de 0,86 e 0,81 mL g-1, respectivamente. A fração orgânica do solo foi o principal fator relacionado à sorção de todos os pesticidas estudados. Especificamente, o teor de ácido húmico regulou a atração entre o pesticida e o solo, principalmente através dos grupos carboxílicos.

ABSTRACT: Pesticide soil sorption is a primary factor that influences the fate of pesticides in the environment, affecting regulation of microbiological and chemical degradation, volatilization and leaching. The main goal of this research was to study the effect of the organic phase of volcanic soils on sorption of agricultural pesticides. Sorption and desorption of eight agricultural pesticides were studied on eight volcanic soils that varied in the fulvic and humic constituents of their organic matter. For all pesticides, sorption was well described by a Freundlich isotherm where 1/nads values indicated that the sorption mechanism could be mainly explained by physical reactions in all soils. Kf values for carbaryl and flumioxazin were the highest with average values of 7.78 and 7.16 mL g-1, respectively. By contrast, hexazinone and metsulfuron-methyl had the lowest average Kf: 0.86 and 0.81 mL g-1, respectively, indicating that they were the least attracted to the soils. The organic fraction of the soil was the main soil factor related to the sorption of all study pesticides. Particularly, humic acid content regulated the sorption between pesticide and soil, especially through the carboxylic groups.

Introduction: Asymptomatic colonic diverticular prevalence varies in the general population between 20 and 60% in international references, however, we couldn't find statistics about it in national reports. A method for detection of this nosological entity is the abdomen and pelvis computed tomography. Aim: Determine the prevalence of asymptomatic colonic diverticulosis in the general population as a find in abdomen and pelvis computed tomography (TCAP). Materials and Method: Cross-sectional study with descriptive statistics, selecting patients with no history of diverticulosis, who underwent TCAP in our Hospital. 1,449 cases are reviewed and 1,177 are included. Results: The general prevalence of colonic diverticula was 28.3%. Their presence increases with age, being close to 60% in > 80 years. Almost 90% are located in the left colon, being more frequent the right side diverticulosis in population under 60 years. Conclusions B The overall prevalence of asymptomatic colonic diverticulosis, detected as a finding in TCAP, corresponds to about one third of patients.

Resumen Introducción: La prevalencia de diverticulosis colónica en población general varía entre 20-60% según referencias internacionales, sin embargo, hay escasos datos nacionales. Un buen método para la detección de esta entidad es la tomografía computarizada de abdomen y pelvis (TACP). Objetivos: Determinar la prevalencia de diverticulosis colónica en población general como hallazgo en tomografías computarizadas de abdomen y pelvis. Materiales y Método: Estudio de corte transversal con estadística observacional, seleccionando pacientes sin antecedentes de diverticulosis que se realizaron TCAP en un hospital clínico en un periodo de 3 meses. Se revisan 1.449 TCAP y se incluyen 1.177 casos. Resultados: La prevalencia general de divertículos colónicos fue de 28,3%, esta cifra aumenta con la edad alcanzando un 60% en mayores de 80 años. Casi un 90% se localizan en colon izquierdo, y los casos en lado derecho se acumulan en menores de 60 años. Conclusiones: La prevalencia global de diverticulosis, detectadas por TCAP en esta población, corresponde a cerca del 30% de los pacientes.

Introduction: There is a global tendency to aging and associated pathologies. In Chile, the prevalence of cholecystolithiasis increases with age, cholecystectomy is one of the most frequent surgeries in the contry. There are few latinamerican studies regarding the reality of the elderly exposed to this problem. Objective: Study postoperative morbimortality in octogenarian patients undergoing cholecystectomy. Define the accuracy of different preoperative diagnostic tools, study operative variables and specify hospital costs. Materials and Method: Retrospective observational study of the Clinical Hospital of the University of Chile, between January 2012 and May 2017. Patients with age equal to or greater than 80 years were included, in whom an elective or emergency cholecystectomy was performed for benign pathology. Results: A total of 145 patients were included, 51.7% were women, the average age was 84.1 years, and 74.5% had comorbidities. The admission was throw the emergency department in 62.1% of the cases. Choledocholithiasis was diagnosed in 26.2% of the entire sample. Cholecystectomy was fully laparoscopic in 73.8% of the overall sample, the conversion rate was 14.5% in the emergency population and 1.8% in the elective population (p = 0.009). The population operated fully laparoscopically, that had choledocholithiasis, was resolved in 95.2% through Rendezvous technique, with a 100% clearance rate of common bile duct. The complication rate was 17.9%, most being medical. The surgical mortality was 2.1%, all cases operated from emergency. The average cost of hospital health care was $5,888,104.3 Chilean pesos (U$9.000). Conclusion: The octogenarian patient with cholecystolithiasis represents a surgical challenge, given a greater number of comorbidities, a more aggressive clinical setting and a high rate of choledocolithiasis. It is advisable to assess the minimally invasive approach and perform routine intraoperative cholangiography. In the postoperative period, the cardiopulmonary status and the infectious complications of the surgical site should be monitored closely.

Resumen Introducción: Existe una tendencia global al envejecimiento y con ello un aumento de patologías asociadas. En Chile la prevalencia de la colelitiasis o colecistolitiasis aumenta con la edad, siendo la cole-cistectomía una de las cirugías más frecuentes. Existen escasos estudios latinoamericanos referentes a la realidad de la población octogenaria expuesta a este problema. Objetivo: Estudiar la morbimortalidad posoperatoria en pacientes octogenarios operados de colecistectomía. Definir la precisión de distintas herramientas diagnósticas preoperatorias, estudiar variables operatorias y precisar costos hospitalarios. Materiales y Método: Estudio observacional retrospectivo de la ficha clínica electrónica del Hospital Clínico de la Universidad de Chile, entre enero de 2012 y mayo de 2017. Se incluyeron pacientes con edad igual o mayor a 80 años, en quienes se realizó una colecistectomía electiva o de urgencia por patología benigna. Resultados: Se incluyeron 145 pacientes, 51,7% fueron mujeres, el promedio de edad fue de 84,1 años y un 74,5% presentaba comorbilidades. El 62,1% de los casos ingresó por urgencia. 26,2% de toda la muestra presentó coledocolitiasis. La colecistectomía fue laparoscópica en 73,8% de la muestra global, la tasa de conversión fue de 14,5% en población de urgencia y 1,8% en población electiva (p = 0,009). La población operada totalmente por vía laparoscópica con coledocolitiasis fue resuelta en un 95,2% a través de Rendez-vous, con una tasa de éxito del 100%. La tasa de complicaciones fue de 17,9% siendo en su mayoría médicas, la mortalidad quirúrgica fue de 2,1%, siendo todos casos de urgencia. El costo promedio de atención en salud hospitalaria fue de $5.888.104 pesos chilenos (U$9.000). Conclusión: El paciente octogenario con colecistolitiasis representa un desafío quirúrgico, dado un mayor número de comorbilidades, un cuadro clínico más agresivo y una elevada tasa de coledocolitiasis. Es aconsejable valorar el abordaje mínimamente invasivo y realizar una colangiografía intraoperatoria de rutina.

The efficiency of combustion in furnaces is the measure of heat released in the flame absorbed by the fluid to be heated and is considered one of the most important variables when conducting studies on processes that occur in continuous process industries. The furnace efficiency is calculated using various mathematical models proposed in the literature; these models vary in complexity depending on the analyzed variables. The models I and II are based on the amount of energy absorbed by the furnace using the heating value, the model III contains variables such as air excess, stack gas temperature and adiabatic flame temperature, meanwhile the model IV contains heating losses in furnace's wall (2%), the stack gas temperature and excess air. In this paper was used computer simulation to evaluate fuel gas mixtures with Lower Heating Values (LHV) between 800 to 2500 Btu/ft³, and they were compared with natural gas and data process; the results show that the combustion characteristics might change by varying the fuel composition. It was also found decreased combustion efficiency due to high hydrogen concentration; on the other hand the adiabatic flame temperature was increased in function of gas composition. Model IV presented in this research allowed evaluating combustion process efficiency using only two variables: stack gas temperature and the excess air.

La eficiencia de combustión en hornos es la medida del calor liberado en la llama que es absorbido por el fluido a calentar y es considerada una de las variables más importantes en la realización de estudios de los procesos que ocurren en una planta de proceso continuo. La eficiencia de un horno es calculada usando diferentes modelos matemáticos propuestos en la literatura, los cuales varían en su complejidad dependiendo de las variables analizadas. Los modelos I y II se basan en la cantidad de calor que es absorbida por el equipo fundamentados en el poder calorífico, el modelo III incluye variables como el exceso de aire, temperatura de chimenea y la temperatura adiabática de llama, mientras el modelo IV incluye pérdidas con las paredes del horno del 2%, la temperatura de chimenea y el exceso de aire. Mediante simulación computacional fueron simuladas mezclas de gas combustible con poder calorífico inferior (LHV por sus siglas en inglés) entre 800-2500 BTU/pie³, y se compararon con el gas natural y con datos de proceso; encontrando que las características de la combustión cambian debido a la variación en la composición del combustible. Se presentó baja eficiencia debido a la alta concentración de hidrógeno y un aumento en la temperatura adiabática de llama en función de la composición del gas. Finalmente el modelo IV permitió evaluar la eficiencia del proceso de combustión de forma efectiva, pues solamente utiliza la temperatura de chimenea y el exceso de aire.

Introduction: p53 and Ki-67 immunodetection have been described in the keratocystic odontogenic tumor (TOQ) and multicystic ameloblastomas (AM). However, there is limited and contradictory evidence regarding the comparison of these two markers between these neoplasias. Their study could help to understand the differences that occur in their clinical behavior and be a complement when defining discriminatory treatment, prognosis and recurrence. Objective: To compare the immunomarking count of p53 and Ki-67 in epithelial cells in AM and TOQ present in the biopsies registered at the Oral Pathology Reference Institute (IREPO), Faculty of Dentistry, University of Chile from 2000 to 2011. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study. 8 cases of TOQ and 6 cases of AM with histopathological diagnosis according to the WHO classification of 2005 were studied using immunohistochemistry. The samples were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded. Results: The data showed a normal distribution in the number of positive cells for both immunomarkers. There were no statistically significant differences in the Immunohistochemical expression of Ki-67 and p53 of TOQ and AM. However in both tumors, the immunohistochemical expression of p53 was higher compared to Ki-67, with a statistically significant difference in TOQ (p=0.0134) and AM (p=0.0079). Conclusion: The results suggest that inhibition of apoptosis in both tumors predominated over cell multiplication. These differences may be related to their growth potential.

Introducción: Ha sido descrita la inmunodetección de p53 y Ki-67 en el tumor odontogénico queratoquístico (TOQ) y en ameloblastomas mutiquísticos (AM). Sin embargo, hay escasa y contradictoria evidencia respecto de la comparación de estos dos marcadores entre estas neoplasias. Su estudio podría contribuir a comprender las diferencias que presentan en su comportamiento clínico y ser un complemento discriminatorio al momento de definir tratamiento, pronóstico y recidiva. Objetivo: Comparar el recuento de inmunomarcación de p53 y Ki-67 en células epiteliales de TOQ y AM, presentes en el registro de biopsias del Instituto de Referencia de Patología Oral (IREPO), de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Chile entre los años 2000-2011. Metodología: Estudio observacional de corte transversal. Se estudiaron mediante inmunohistoquímica 8 casos de TOQ y 6 casos de AM con diagnóstico histopatológico según la clasificación de la OMS del 2005. Las muestras se encontraban en bloques de parafina, fijadas en formalina. Resultados: Los datos mostraron una distribución normal en cuanto al número de células positivas para ambos inmunomarcadores. No hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la inmunomarcación de Ki-67 y p53 para TOQ y AM. Sin embargo, en ambas neoplasias, la inmunomarcación de p53 fue mayor respecto a Ki-67, con una diferencia estadísticamente significativa tanto en TOQ (p=0.0134) como en AM (p=0.0079). Conclusión: Los resultados sugieren que la inhibición de apoptosis predominó en ambos tumores por sobre la multiplicación celular. Estas diferencias podrían relacionarse con su potencial de crecimiento.

En este artículo de investigación científica se analiza el efecto del cambio de la composición del gas combustible (Gas de Refinería (GR) por Gas Natural (GN)) sobre las características del proceso combustión en hornos de la industria de refinación del petróleo; se evaluó el poder calorífico, el índice de Wobbe (IW) y exceso de oxígeno, para mezclas combustibles de composición variable. Mediante simulación computacional del proceso de combustión se calculó la temperatura adiabática de llama, eficiencia y la composición de los productos de combustión. Se evaluaron mezclas de gases combustibles con poderes caloríficos entre 800-2500 Btu/pie3 y se compararon con la combustión de gas natural. Se registró variabilidad en la temperatura adiabática y la eficiencia en función de la composición del gas y el exceso de oxígeno, lo que genera inestabilidad en el horno y mayor impacto ambiental.

This scientific research article is an analysis of the effect fuel gas composition change (from Refinery Gas to Natural Gas) has on the characteristics of combustion process in industrial oil refining furnaces; heat power, Wobbe Index, and oxygen excess were evaluated for combustible mixtures of variable composition. Through computational simulation of the combustion process, adiabatic temperature of the flame, efficiency, and composition of combustion products were calculated. Mixtures of combustible gases with heat powers between 800 and 2500 Btu/cubic feet were evaluated and compared to natural gas combustion. Variability of adiabatic temperature and efficiency in function of gas composition and oxygen excess occurred; and this resulted in furnace instability and higher environmental impact.

Introduction: In healthy persons, the salivary flow rate (VFS) or sialometry can be affected by the age, the gender and the circadian rhythm. There is no evidence of the reproducibility of the non-stimulated VFS determined in 5 minutes, in different moments of the day in the same individual. Aim: To determine the reliability of the non-stimulated VFS measured in 5 minutes, its reproducibility over time and its relation with the age range and the gender. Methodology: VFS was determined for 15 minutes in 42 clinically healthy individuals, with a median age of 45.5 (30-65), between 9 and 11 AM in two mornings and between 3 and 5 PM in the evening of the second day of measurement. The saliva was collected in 2 separated pipes, one for the first 5 minutes and one for the 10 remaining minutes. The weight of the samples was expressed in ml/min. The values between the groups of study were compared by means of the Student’s t-test, ANOVA and the Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Results: The average VFS was of 0.623 ± 0.329 and of 0.551 ± 0.289 after 5 and 15 minutes respectively (p=0.001). VFS was higher in men after 5 and 15 minutes (p=0.001). VFS in women diminished as the age increased. There were no differences in VFS after 5 minutes (p=0.375) and after 15 minutes (p=0.825), in different days and moments of the day, in the same individual. Conclusion: VFS collected for 5 minutes in the same individual presents constant values in the different days and moments of the day.

Introducción: En personas sanas, la velocidad de flujo salival o sialometría (VFS) puede afectarse por la edad, género y ritmo circadiano. No existe evidencia de la reproducibilidad de VFS no estimulada determinada en 5 minutos, en distintos momentos del día en un mismo individuo. Objetivos: Determinar confiabilidad de VFS no estimulada medida en 5 minutos, reproducibilidad en el tiempo y relación con rango etario y género. Metodología: Se determinó VFS durante 15 minutos en 42 individuos clínicamente sanos, con una mediana de 45.5 (30-65) años, entre 9 y 11 AM durante dos mañanas y entre 3 y 5 PM durante la tarde del segundo día de medición. La saliva se colectó en tubos separados durante 5 minutos y durante los 10 minutos restantes. El peso de las muestras fue expresado en ml/min. Los valores entre los grupos de estudio, se compararon mediante test t de Student, ANOVA y coeficiente de correlación de Spearman. Resultados: VFS promedio fue de 0.623 ± 0.329 y de 0.551 ± 0.289 a los 5 y 15 minutos respectivamente (p=0.001). VFS fue mayor en hombres a los 5 y 15 minutos (p=0.001). VFS en mujeres, disminuyó al aumentar la edad. No hubo diferencias en VFS a los 5 minutos (p=0.375) y a los 15 minutos (p=0.825), en distintos días y momentos del día, en un mismo individuo. Conclusión: VFS colectada durante 5 minutos, en un mismo individuo, presenta valores constantes en distintos días y momentos del día.

Introduction and objectives: Varieties of prostatic adenocarcinoma whose architectural and cytological appearance mimicked benign lesions have been reported in recent decades. Such neoplasms include xanthomatous (foamy) carcinoma and pseudohyperplastic carcinoma. We recently studied five carcinomas showing a cytoarchitectural combination of both neoplasms which were confused with benign glandular proliferations. Methods: Five cases (1.8%) of pseudohyperplastic carcinoma showing xanthomatous changes were selected from a total of 280 biopsies showing prostate carcinoma. Glandular prostatic hyperplasia was originally diagnosed in four of such cases. Results: Patient age ranged from 54 and 78 years (mean, 64 years). All patients had high prostate-specific antigen levels, and digital rectal examination showed abnormalities in four of them. Neoplasms showed minimal atypia and consisted of mid- to large-sized glands arranged in nests resembling hyperplastic nodules. Glands showed papillary projections, infoldings, and undulations. Most nuclei were basal, small and hyperchromatic, and nucleomegaly was only seen in two biopsies in isolated histological fields. Several useful criteria for diagnosis of acinar carcinoma, such as perineural infiltration, mitosis, crystalloids, blue secretions, and prostatic intraepithelial neoplasm, were absent. Conclusions: Prostatic carcinoma with a pseudohyperplastic pattern and xanthomatous changes mimics hyperplastic glands. Timely detection is critical to avoid treatment delay.

Introducción y objetivos: En las últimas décadas se han descrito variedades de adenocarcinoma prostático que por su arquitectura y su aspecto citológico semejan lesiones benignas. Estas neoplasias incluyen al carcinoma xantomatoso (espumoso) y al carcinoma pseudohiperplásico. Recientemente hemos estudiado cinco carcinomas que mostraron una combinación citoarquitectónica de ambas neoplasias y fueron confundidas con proliferaciones glandulares benignas. Métodos: De un total de 280 biopsias con carcinoma prostático se seleccionaron cinco casos (1,8%) de carcinoma pseudohiperplásico que mostraron cambios xantomatosos. Cuatro de ellos fueron diagnosticados originalmente como hiperplasia glandular prostática. Resultados: La edad de los pacientes varió de 54 a 78 años (promedio: 64 años). El antígeno prostático estuvo elevado en todos, y en el examen digital rectal se encontraron alteraciones en cuatro. Las neoplasias mostraron atipia mínima y estuvieron constituidas por glándulas de mediano y gran tamaño que se disponían en nidos semejantes a nódulos hiperplásicos. Las glándulas mostraron proyecciones papilares, plegamientos y ondulaciones. La mayoría de los núcleos fueron basales, pequeños e hipercromáticos, y sólo ocasionalmente se observó nucleomegalia. Varios criterios útiles en el diagnóstico de carcinoma acinar, incluyendo infiltración perineural, mitosis, cristaloides, secreciones azules y neoplasia intraepitelial prostática, estuvieron ausentes. Conclusiones: Los carcinomas prostáticos con patrón pseudohiperplásico y cambios xantomatosos semejan glándulas hiperplásicas. Su reconocimiento oportuno es crucial para evitar retardo en el tratamiento.

This paper propose that political debate about environment is organized above the enviromental crisis idea. This idea come up in the second half of XX century in the First World, then for studying its origin and first divulgation in the global level, between the immediate postwar period and the beginnings of the decade of seventy, it´s necessary to consider, at least, advances in the ecology science spreading process, first widespread essays written by scientific community members related to environmental crisis, impact on mass media due to first ecological disasters, arising of a ecologist or environmental social movement, and the role developped by the United Nations Organization included the Stockholm Conference in 1972

Este artículo propone que el debate político en torno al Medio Ambiente se estructura sobre la idea de crisis ambiental. Esta idea surge en la segunda mitad del siglo XX en el Primer Mundo, y para estudiar su génesis y primera socialización a nivel global, entre la inmediata posguerra y los inicios de la década del setenta, se debe tener en consideración, a lo menos, los avances en la difusión de la ecología como disciplina científica, los primeros escritos de gran divulgación por parte de miembros de la comunidad científica relacionados con la crisis ambiental, el impacto mediático de los primeros accidentes que generan grandes desastres ecológicos; el surgimiento de un movimiento social ecologista y/o ambientalista; y el papel jugado por la Organización de Naciones Unidad incluida la conferencia de Estocolmo de 1972

Garnet is an uncommon accessory mineral in igneous rocks and is a relevant petrologic topic. Combined petrology, chemistry/mineralogy, whole-rock geochemistry, and isotopic geochemistry studies in the cerro Asperecito indicate that the garnet-bearing granitoids of the Peñón Rosado Granite (PRG) were produced by partial melting of metasedimentary rocks and subsequent differentiation during their emplacement at the Early-Middle Ordovician. In this way the PRG1 facies represent an early crystallized, the PRG2 facies represent a differentiated melt, and the PRG3 facies a residual melt. The Peñón Rosado Granite, was emplaced in moderated-T (785ºC) and middle-P (4.4 kb) conditions in middle crustal depths (~15 km). The almost synchronous emplacement in the middle crust of a major metaluminous igneous suite during the Early-Middle Ordovician (468 Ma in the cerro Asperecito) was sufficient to induce local anatexis of the surrounding metasediments. Major (CaO, Na2O) and trace element (Rb, Sr, Ba) contents in the Peñón Rosado Granite strongly suggest anatexis from immature continental platform material. Thus the Peñón Rosado Granite is a S-type garnet-bearing granitoid and the present model established here contributes to better understanding about the garnet crystallization in granitic rocks.

El granate es un mineral accesorio poco común en rocas ígneas y constituye un tema relevante de la petrología ígnea. Estudios combinados de petrología, química mineral, geoquímica de roca total y geoquímica isotópica en el cerro Asperecito indican que los granitoides con granate que forman el Granito Peñón Rosado (GPR) fueron producidos por la fusión parcial de rocas metasedimentarias con subsecuente diferenciación durante su emplazamiento en el Ordovícico inferior-medio. En este sentido, la facies GPR1 representa un cristalizado temprano, la facies GPR2 representa un fundido diferenciado, y la facies GPR3 un fundido residual. El Granito Peñón Rosado, fue emplazado en condiciones de moderada temperatura (785ºC) y presión media (4,4 kb) en profundidades de la corteza media (~15 km). El emplazamiento casi sincrónico en la corteza media de una abundante suite metaluminosa durante el Ordovícico inferior-medio (468 Ma en el cerro Asperecito) fue suficiente para inducir anatexis local de los metasedimentos circundantes. Los contenidos de elementos mayoritarios (CaO, Na2O) y elementos traza (Rb, Sr, Ba) en el Granito Peñón Rosado sugieren anatexis a partir de un material inmaduro acumulado en un plataforma continental.
